Hi baker chick, this article has been so helpful. I haven't cooked scones for years and decided I wanted to practice and get a really good recipe under my belt. Deep in my subconscious is the use of cream of tartar for cookies. Mrs McFetridge's voice still rings in my ears from 1979 Home Ec! I was a bit bemused by all the different recipe options, most of which recommend baking powder and maybe extra lemon juice and I wanted to understand what they all do. So your info has been really clear and helpful!
Thanks
