If you’re searching for the perfect drink to sip on hot summer days or to impress friends at your next summer party, look no further than these Fresh Strawberry Margaritas. Bursting with fresh flavor from ripe strawberries and real fresh lime juice, this easy margarita recipe is the perfect way to kick off happy hour, Cinco de Mayo, or a just a fun night in.
Why You’ll Love This Strawberry Margarita
- Fresh fruit takes center stage, with no margarita mix, sour mix or triple sec needed. (I use fresh OJ instead!)
- It’s easy to make in small batches with a cocktail shaker or a large batch for parties. I like to make this recipe in a big mason jar and store in the fridge for summer gatherings.
- You can adjust the sweetness with additional simple syrup, though I think my version is perfectly balanced.
- The recipe is easily adaptable for other fruit flavors or even just a classic margarita.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- Tequila
- Fresh limes
- Simple syrup (make from equal parts sugar and water)
- Fresh orange juice (I like fresh squeezed, but whatever you have can work.)
- Coarse salt or sugar for the rim of the glass
- Fresh ice and plenty of ice for serving
- Optional- limes and strawberry slices for garnish
How to Make Fresh Strawberry Margaritas on the Rocks (large batch version- makes 8-10 drinks)
- In a pitcher or large glass measuring cup combine the tequila, fresh lime juice, simple syrup and orange juice. Stir to combine.
- Add in the strawberries. Use an immersion blender to pureé the mixture until the strawberries are blended in. (You can also make the whole thing in a blender, or puree the strawberries first in a smaller food processor or blender and then add to the liquids.)
- Strain out strawberry solids if you’d like (I leave them in!)
- Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a glass or margarita glasses, then dip into a small bowl of margarita salt, coarse salt, or sugar.
- Pour drinks into glasses and enjoy. Store extra margarita in the fridge until ready to serve. (Instructions for making just 2 cocktails in the recipe card below!)
Tips:
- For a Frozen Version: Blend all ingredients with ice for a frozen strawberry margarita.
- Spicy Margarita: Toss in some jalapeño slices into the cocktail shaker for a little heat at medium heat spice level. If you are making a large batch. You can make jalapeño simple syrup by letting the peppers steep in the syrup for an hour.
- Low-Sugar Skinny Margarita: I always use regular simple syrup, but you could use agave nectar and more fresh lime juice for a skinny margarita option
- Tequila: I usually use Silver tequila, but any type you have is fine!
Serve these up with a bowl of crisp tortilla chips and your favorite salsa or guacamole for a festive happy hour at home!
